Pratt & Whitney said on Thursday that its new turbofan aircraft engine gear registered high reliability in its initial customer, Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
"We are 99 percent reliable release for Lufthansa," Bob Leduc, president of Pratt & Whitney, said at an investor conference held by the parent of United Technologies.
"A motor is not robust, a motor that is not shown nondurable 99 percent dispatch outside the box."
Lufthansa took delivery of the first Airbus A320neo aircraft equipped with Pratt & Whitney engines in January after launch customer Qatar Airways raised concerns about engine performance in hot climates. On Wednesday, Qatar Airways said the engines have not been tested properly and was seeking guarantees of compliance with Airbus and Pratt.
